Anticonformista: the Bonarda of Monferrato that breaks the rules

In Monferrato, wine is memory. But at Tenuta Genevrina we believe that memory should be a starting point, not a limit.

If our Grignolino Curioso is a rebellious elegance and our Barbera Ettore is a tribute to deep and resilient roots, there is one wine in our cellar that speaks the language of pure challenge: Anticonformista, our interpretation of Bonarda del Monferrato.

Bonarda del Monferrato: an ancient grape with a rock soul

Bonarda Piemontese is a pillar of Monferrato’s agricultural tradition, often relegated to lightly sparkling and easy-drinking versions.

We chose a different path.

Anticonformista is a Piemonte DOC Bonarda vinified as a still wine, created for those who are not afraid to be surprised. It is round, harmonious and velvety on the palate, almost contemplative, revealing its unmistakable rock soul from the very first sip.

A rock soul, yes. A rare rock soul.

Bonarda Piemontese and Croatina: the differences between the two grapes

Names can often be confusing.

But Anticonformista makes no compromises: it is produced from pure Bonarda Piemontese, a grape with its own distinct identity.

Unlike Croatina — often incorrectly called Bonarda in other regions — our Bonarda is a historic and rare native Piedmontese grape variety.

Once widely grown across the hills of Monferrato, today it is a small gem that only a few producers choose to vinify with dedication.

Why Bonarda del Monferrato is such a special grape

Bonarda Piemontese offers intense aromas of ripe red fruits with natural spicy notes and a silky tannic structure that gives the wine elegance and harmony.

Its rarity makes it a true discovery for wine lovers and enthusiasts — an expression of viticultural biodiversity that Tenuta Genevrina has chosen to preserve.

Being Anticonformista also means this: believing in a native grape that requires care, sensitivity and patience.

It is a tribute to the liquid history of Monferrato.

Innovation in the details: the screw cap

The name is no coincidence, and it is reflected in the packaging as well.

We chose a screw cap, a technological solution that preserves the wine’s aromas and freshness perfectly while eliminating the risks associated with cork.

It is a gesture of respect toward both the consumer and the wine itself, fully aligned with our vision of modern and sustainable winemaking.

A connection with the Monferrato territory and the future of the estate

While work continues on our new underground winery on the beautiful Belvento hill in Ozzano Monferrato, Anticonformista perfectly represents the harmonious dialogue between past and future that we strive to build every day.

It is a wine born from the land but looking ahead, just like the architectural project that is gradually taking shape beneath our feet.

Waiting to welcome you to Tenuta Genevrina

In time, the renovation works will be completed, creating what will become the beating heart of the estate — a place of sensory harmony where nature and architecture merge.

In the meantime, we continue to care for our vineyards and our wines.

Anticonformista is already ready to tell our story: a harmonious dialogue between past and future.

Let’s rock.
